How to Import AVI to Adobe Premiere Pro/CC/CS6

"When I try to import any video file (e.g. AVI files) in Adobe Premiere Pro cc in my Macbook Air, I get this error: ‘codec missing or unavailable’. What to do about it?"

This problem comes down to codecs. AVI is a container file format that can be encoded with different codecs, including DV codec, DivX, Motion JPEG codec, among others. But Premiere can only deal with some types of AVI files incluidng DV-AVI, and Microsoft AVI (Type 1 and Type 2). So, you'll fail to import AVI files to Premiere Pro/CC/CS6, etc if your AVIs are in codecs that Premiere doesn't support. Don't worry. There are available solutions to sovle the problem. You can consider to download and install a required codec to playback the unsupported AVI files in Adobe Premiere. For example, if you are playing DivX-encoded AVI clips, you need to install the DivX codec. Usually, codecs are available from codec publishers' websites.
