How to Use Data Recovery

Data Recovery provides users with 2 types of recovery modes - Wizard Mode Recovery and Standard Mode Recovery (Lost File Recovery; Raw File Recovery; Partition Recovery; Resume Recovery) to recover lost computer data files easily and safely and thoroughly. With it, users can not only recover lost data such as images, videos, Emails, archive files, etc. from hard disk or USB flash drive and any other external devices, but also recover photos, videos, SMS, contacts, notes, calendars and call history from iPhone via iTunes. Now blow are the detailed instructions.

For preparation, you need to download the Data Recovery, install and run it. In case you overwrite the disk, keep in mind that not to install the program to the disk you lost your data. After launching the program, you will see the main panel of the Data Recovery as the snapshot shown below.

Wizard Mode Recovery

Download the free trail version, install it to your computer and then launch the program. Soon afterwards, you will see the "Wizard mode" section, press "Next" button to enter a new window.

Right in the window, you will find several options such as "Photo/Graphic", "MP3/Audio", etc. You need to choose the type that you want to recover based on your requirement, of course, you can select "All File files", then click "Next".

Now, you need to tell the program where you lost the file, from "External removable devices", "Recycle Bin" or "Desktop and my document". If you cannot remember the location, simply choose the "I can't remember" option and the program will scan the whole computer for you. Once chose, click "Next" to continue.

Another new window will show up, right there, you will see two options - "Enable Deep Scan" and "Enable Raw File Recovery". As you can see, there are detailed description on both options, so, please choose the one that best meet with your requirement. For sure, if you just want to recover the files deleted recently, you can ignore the two options directly. Again, once you have chosen, remember to click "Start" icon, the program will begin to scan the files automatically.

You can view the scanning process in real-time as well as controlling the it such as pause or stop the scanning and save the scanned results for recovery later. After finishing scanning, all scanned files will be displayed file types, such as archive, audio, database, document, email, graphic, video, etc on the left hand of the workbench window.You can select any file to preview the content, so that you can decide whether it is the one you want to get back or not.

When you have decided which files to be recovered, make sure to click "Pause" and then simply hit the "Recover" button. You will be required to choose a location for saving the recovered files. Always keep in mind that: never save the recovered files to the location where you lost your files previously, or they will be overwritten by the new files.

Lost File Recovery

In the interface of the program, you can click "Standard Mode" to recover the files. When entering the standard mode recovery section, you will see four types of recovery options

Lost File Recovery can revert lost data due to accidentally deleted by "Shift + Delete"; command or emptied from the Recycle Bin from either your computer or other removable storages. Select the disk where you lost your files, and click on "Start" to scan and recover them.

If you chose to scan "All files", the scanning result would be displayed in file types, such as archive, audio, database, document, email, graphic, video, etc. You can recover them selectively after previewing. PDF, PPT, RAR, ZIP, Excel, and photos like PNG, JPG, JPEG, TIF, etc. can be previewed.

For alternative, you can also check the previous path of those files by switching "File type" to "File Path".

Tips: 1. Don't save the recover files to the location where you lost the files, or the original data will be overwritten.
2. While scanning, you can check the files been scanned out at the same time. If you’ve found the lost files you need, you can "Pause" to recover them first. Then "Continue" or "Stop" your scan.
3. You can filter your lost files in the scanning result by search the filename or path.
4. When the scanning process ends, you can save the scanning results for later recovery.

Raw File Recovery

If you don’t get your desired lost data with the "Lost File Recovery" mode, you are suggested to use Raw File Recovery mode. This mode will scan all the drives completely and retrieve your lost data by "file signature". The steps are more or less the same as that of "Lost File Recovery" mode, just choose a drive according to the actual condition and then press the "Start" button to begin scanning. Please note that you can choose "For All Files" or "For Deleted Files" from the "Scan Options" column based on your needs. Besides, this recovery process will take you lots of time and doesn't show you the file names and paths.

Patition Recovery

The "Patition Recovery" mode helps to recover lost data, deleted, resized or damaged partition, and then retrieve lost files and folders intact. After choosing the recovery mode, all existing disks on your Mac will be shown in a new window. Choose the proper the disk where you lost the partition, then press the "Start" button and begin to scan for the partitions.

A little while later, you will all scanned partitions listing in the workbench window with size, validity, file system, etc. Please choose the partition where you lost your data an click on the "Start" button, the very next minute, you will see the program starting to scan files automatically.

You can view the scanning process on a progress bar which shows you the files found and remaining time. After scanning, you can preview the contents which are listed by categories of "File Type" and "Path". You are allowed to select any one of the scanned files to preview its content, so that you can determine if it's the one you want to retrieve. After choosing the files, simply hit on the "Recover" button. Then, you will be asked to select a position to save the recovered file. Again, remember not to save the file back to the location where it's lost previously.

Resume Recovery

Resume Recovery is only used for saved scan results. While scanning, you can stop the scanning process and press the "Save Scan" button to save the data which have been scanned out to local for backup. By doing so, you can continue the previous scan and recovery process later. For this, simply choose the "Resume Recovery" mode to open the backup files and then you are able to continue scanning your lost files, or directly recover lost data from the previously found files with ease.

Uninstall Data Recovery

Windows

Go to Start > All Programs > Wondershare > Data Recovery > Uninstall Wondershare Data Recovery

 

Mac

1. Go to the folder containing Wondershare Data Recovery for Mac.

2. Drag Data Recovery for Mac to the Trash icon in the Dock. You'll need administrative rights if it's installed in your Applications folder.

3. Remove Data Recovery for Mac icon from your Dock, simply drag it out of the Dock with your mouse.
