What is Windows Movie Maker

The History of Windows Movie Maker

Generally speaking, Windows Movie Maker has been around the industry for over 8 years. Bundled with the Windows OS, Windows Movie Maker has undergone several versions. As is more commonly known, the first version of Windows Movie Maker was available in 2000 with the release of Windows Me, followed which came the Windows Movie Maker 1.1 (Windows XP). About two years later -- probably in November 2002, Microsoft launched another free update version called Windows Movie Maker 2 which's got some new features.

In 2006, Windows Movie Maker 2.6 was shipped with the new OS Windows Vista. This newest version of WMM came with a series of advanced features such as new effects and transitions. In 2007, the Windows Movie Maker 6 was available which's able to support DVR-MS, a file format used by Windows Media Center to record television programs.

To sum up, there are seven version of Windows Movie Maker starting from the original version to the latest version released in 2007.
